MADE FOR THE FLOORFor stores supervisors, inventory administrators and small manufacturers who keep a parts and locations list in a stock system or spreadsheet and want people on the floor to use it.
A USEFUL STARTING POINT
A lookup is only as good as the file behind it
FindBench reads your file exactly as text. It keeps leading zeroes, case and spaces, refuses malformed rows and duplicate headers instead of guessing, and shows the first five rows and any unmapped columns before you load. The title and declared source date you enter appear with every result and in every PDF, so people can see which version of the list they are using.
FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE
Three steps to a useful result.
- 01
Export a UTF-8 CSV
Save the sheet or stock system export as CSV UTF-8 with one header row. Comma, semicolon and tab separators are supported. Save XLSX workbooks as CSV first.
- 02
Map and review
Choose the code column, then description, location and note if your file has them. FindBench suggests common column names for you to confirm. Add a title and the date the data was exported.
- 03
Keep it for the next shift
Save on this device for repeat use, or download a backup and import it on another phone or PC. The backup holds the mapped columns and row numbers, not the original file.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLEOne export, mapped once, used on the floor
An administrator exports 2,480 rows with 12 columns from the stock system as a semicolon-separated CSV, maps item_code, description, bin and notes, titles the reference Main stores parts list and declares the export date as 6 October 2026. The preview lists the 8 columns left out. A backup file moves the same reference to the stores tablet, where every lookup shows that title and date.
USED IN PRODUCTION
From a reference file to everyday work.
FindBench answers one question from a file you load. Two SmartFACT services handle work that repeats every day: keeping line-side locations refilled from stores, and keeping reference data in Google Sheets for your applications to query. Both are in early access, with scope agreed at onboarding.
RefillFlow
Knowing where a part is kept is one job; keeping that place stocked is another. Scan an empty container's card at the line and RefillFlow sends one refill request to stores, prints the ticket there and tracks the pick and delivery. Approved plain English rules set the stores queue, priority and escalation.
ConfigSheets
If your reference lives in a spreadsheet that you export again every time it changes, ConfigSheets keeps that data in Google Sheets and makes it available as structured data your applications can query, including filtered lookups by code. FindBench itself reads only the CSV you load.
BEFORE YOU START
A few practical answers.
What format does the file need?
UTF-8 CSV with one header row and comma, semicolon or tab separators, up to 5 MiB, 10,000 rows and 40 columns. Headers must be unique and not blank, and every row needs a code. Locations can be up to 120 characters, and descriptions and notes up to 500.
Does FindBench change or keep my file?
No. The file is read in the browser and is never changed or uploaded. A saved project or backup keeps only the columns you mapped and each row's original row number. To update the reference, export a fresh CSV and load it: it replaces the old reference and clears the previous lookup.
Can it read Excel files or a live sheet?
No. Save the sheet as CSV first. FindBench does not connect to Google Sheets, your ERP or any web address, and it never refreshes a file by itself. If your applications need to query a maintained sheet, that is the job ConfigSheets does.
What are the current limits?
FindBench shows what your file lists. It is not a stock system: there are no quantities, availability, reservations, movements or put-away, and a listed location is not proof that a part is there. Matching is exact text, so 000017 and 17 are different codes, and there is no partial, wildcard or case-insensitive search. One reference is open at a time, and FindBench never refreshes it or connects to your ERP, a spreadsheet service or a web address. Imports are UTF-8 CSV with one header row, up to 5 MiB, 10,000 rows and 40 columns, with locations up to 120 characters and descriptions and notes up to 500. XLSX files are not read, so save the sheet as CSV first.
What happens to my data?
Your reference stays in this browser. Work is temporary by default, and Save on this device keeps it between visits. The CSV, your scans and your downloads are never uploaded, and camera images are decoded on the device. No account or contact details are needed. Google Analytics is optional and loads only after you accept; it never receives codes, locations, descriptions or file contents.
