Illustrative values from an invented reference. A listed location is not proof of stock.
MADE FOR THE FLOORFor stores assistants, goods-in staff and maintenance engineers who handle parts they do not know by sight, using a parts and locations list someone already maintains.
A USEFUL STARTING POINT
An unfamiliar code needs a quick, exact answer
Searching a spreadsheet on a shared PC is slow, and a lookup formula returns only the first match. FindBench matches the scanned code exactly and lists every row that matches. If a part has a main location and an overflow, you see both. If nothing matches, it says Not found in this reference, never that the part is out of stock.
FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE
Three steps to a useful result.
- 01
Open the reference
Load the parts list CSV, or open a reference already saved on this device. Its title, declared date and load time stay on screen.
- 02
Scan the part
Use the camera or a keyboard scanner, or type the code and press Enter or choose Use this code. Leading zeroes and spaces count.
- 03
Go to the listed location
Each result shows the location in large type, with the description, note and source row. Copy exact code puts the code on your clipboard if you need it elsewhere.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLEOne code, two places, both shown
A goods-in operative scans 000017 from a bracket label. The reference lists it at A-03, lower shelf, and at B-11, overflow. FindBench reports 2 exact matching rows and shows both locations. Scanning 17 finds a different part, because codes are compared exactly.
USED IN PRODUCTION
From a reference file to everyday work.
FindBench answers one question from a file you load. Two SmartFACT services handle work that repeats every day: keeping line-side locations refilled from stores, and keeping reference data in Google Sheets for your applications to query. Both are in early access, with scope agreed at onboarding.
RefillFlow
Knowing where a part is kept is one job; keeping that place stocked is another. Scan an empty container's card at the line and RefillFlow sends one refill request to stores, prints the ticket there and tracks the pick and delivery. Approved plain English rules set the stores queue, priority and escalation.
ConfigSheets
If your reference lives in a spreadsheet that you export again every time it changes, ConfigSheets keeps that data in Google Sheets and makes it available as structured data your applications can query, including filtered lookups by code. FindBench itself reads only the CSV you load.
BEFORE YOU START
A few practical answers.
Can I use a phone camera?
Yes, if your browser allows camera access. Choose Scan with the camera and hold the barcode inside the guide box. FindBench accepts a value once it reads the same code twice in a row. Images are decoded on the device and never uploaded. The camera reads Code 128, QR, Data Matrix, EAN and UPC codes.
Which scanners work?
Any USB or Bluetooth scanner that types like a keyboard and sends Enter or Tab after each code. If a code does not match when it should, ScannerBench shows exactly what your scanner sends, including hidden prefixes and suffixes.
What if the file has no location for a part?
The matching row still appears, headed No location supplied, so an empty location cell is easy to tell apart from a code that is not in the file at all.
What are the current limits?
FindBench shows what your file lists. It is not a stock system: there are no quantities, availability, reservations, movements or put-away, and a listed location is not proof that a part is there. Matching is exact text, so 000017 and 17 are different codes, and there is no partial, wildcard or case-insensitive search. One reference is open at a time, and FindBench never refreshes it or connects to your ERP, a spreadsheet service or a web address. Imports are UTF-8 CSV with one header row, up to 5 MiB, 10,000 rows and 40 columns, with locations up to 120 characters and descriptions and notes up to 500. XLSX files are not read, so save the sheet as CSV first.
What happens to my data?
Your reference stays in this browser. Work is temporary by default, and Save on this device keeps it between visits. The CSV, your scans and your downloads are never uploaded, and camera images are decoded on the device. No account or contact details are needed. Google Analytics is optional and loads only after you accept; it never receives codes, locations, descriptions or file contents. Use Analytics settings on these pages, or Change preference in the tool, to change your choice; see /privacy/.
